It can become very disheartening with the expenses scandal rolling on. MP's spending habits surreal when cast against the amount of money those with disabilities have to live off. Clearly the moral authority has gone with the likes of James Purnell avoiding paying tax, must be nice to be in that position whilst controlling the destinies of those more vulnerable.
There are some elections coming up and the temptation is to vote with the heart out of anger rather than with the head. I would urge you to vote and vote according to your principals. The local council and European elections will not "get rid" of any standing MP that comes at general election time.
Don't get upset, don't get disheartened. It is difficult but we are all in the same boat. Our politics are changing and now more than ever is the time to get writing urging your MP or potential MP for their positions on the issues that matter to you.
An important time as it is likely those ministers placed today will lead the charge on government policy into the next election. We have covered this in the forums as it is important that you know who is responsible for key areas of your life whether you access health services or state benefit services.
For me it is another "throw of the dice" to try and raise the issues you have mentioned & I naturally share over the last few years with new people, we will always do this. "To fell a tree takes several strikes of the axe."
Personally I am not unhappy with the disappearance of people who in the main I believe have been more self-serving than country serving. This is my view and of course you are fully entitled to disagree and I welcome any comments you have, as always.
I hope you voted yesterday and with your head and not your heart, as we were all tempted to do including myself. Knowing the issues our community face, living them myself I am extremely angry at the headlines of abuse of the spirit of the expenses system. Especially when if you are HIV+ you face a difficult time trying to keep your head above the water-line fighting for what you maybe entitled to.
£500m consultancy deal with Cipher
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has signed a four year systems and technical consultancy services contract worth £500m.
The Cipher Consultancy Services Framework will replace the Cipher deal from 2004-2008. It will focus mainly on consultancy but Capita is expected to manage services for interim personnel.
The consulting deal will cover strategic and business change; strategic financial; operational financial; and human resources. Suppliers to the deal will include Atkins, Capgemini, Detica, KPMG, IBM, McKinsey, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Tribal HELM.
The services will be available to the DWP and its agencies, along with the MoD, Home Office and the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
The agreement is for four years.
DWP officials believe that they will now have better access to quality consulting suppliers and that areas such as cost savings, the management of information and performance and delivery standards are expected to improve."
